One of the easiest ways to strengthen existing writing skills is to add new words to the written vocabulary. English is one of the richest of all languages, which means you will never run out of vocabulary to learn and use. All forms of written text, from novels to news, from prose to poetry, benefit from a strong vocabulary. For this reason, the time you spend on improving your vocabulary skills is actually the time you spend on writing skills.
The most valuable vocabulary words are those that you can recall and use almost automatically. After all, learning vocabulary is only valuable if you can actually use your new words in a piece of writing and—equally important—use them correctly. Here, I am providing some of the best tips which will help to enhance your vocabulary.
1. Develop a reading habit.
As we are all aware of the benefits of every day's reading whether we read books, novels or magazines. It helps us to memorize as it strengthens the brain. Reading has so many benefits even as on our health also: it helps to build vocabulary, increase empathy and reduces stress, etc. So we need to develop a reading habit to improve our daily life.
2. Use the dictionary and thesaurus
Dictionaries are the first indispensable resource for improving vocabulary. Only by looking up a word in the dictionary can help you to understand its exact meaning, spelling, alternative definitions, and other useful information. Practicing is mainly the best way to memorize the words you have written in your thesaurus. I want you to consider adding a good dictionary and thesaurus to your bookshelf.
3. Play word games
Word games can play an important role in learning new words and also helps to memorize because most word games use semantic and/or phonological skills, which are the exact same skills that we need for learning words. If we play such games on regular basis. I promise you, it will be a splendid result.
4. Practice using new words in the conversation
Practice! Practice! Practice! yes, this is the way we can gather a lot of new words in our mind by using the words we have learned previously by using such learning tips. Now it's time to practice those words to communicate. Remember, To communicate well is to understand, and be understood.
